Sports & Events Sales Manager
Full-time, Non-Exempt)
Responsible for promoting and selling Salem & the Mid-Willamette Valley as a premier sports destination to local, regional and national event planners with an emphasis on generating city- wide overnight lodging.
Reports to: President & CEO
Sales & Marketing
- Promote and sell Salem as an event destination to a wide range of sports groups
- Generate leads and bookings for sports and events
- Contact potential event and sports planners through telemarketing, direct mail, tradeshows, advertising placement, and in person
- Prepare and conduct sales presentations
- Facilitate partnership, communication and a trusting referral system between Salem
lodging and sports facilities - Coordinate and conduct site tours of the Salem region lodging and event/sports facilities
- Serve as a liaison between sports and event planners and Salem region facilities in the
coordination of bids for sports and event business - Manage Sports program marketing, advertising and social media channels (e.g., sales
collateral materials, advertising, venue guide, website, tradeshow components, promotional items); coordinate deliverables with Marcom; create quarterly content plans and include in the Content Calendar - Manage in-market sports promotion at events (e.g., Hoopfest, Les Schwab Invitational)
Event Research & Development
- Actively seek and pursue new event and sports opportunities
- Facilitate event development strategies with Salem area facility managers and/or owners
- Research and explore new and existing events and sports opportunities (proactive &reactive) to enhance and expand their economic impact on the Salem area
- Manage & execute revenue-generating Travel Salem Sports events
Administrative Duties
- Develop annual Sports Work Plan and budget
- Lead and coordinate efforts for the Salem Area Sports Commission (including Work Groups); present updates to the Board of Directors and produce meeting minutes from SASC and Work Groups
- Maintain monthly records of contacts, leads, and bookings
- Complete monthly, quarterly, annual and lost business reports for sports sales
- Oversee and coordinate Travel Salem website sections that relate to the sports program
- Assist in sales collateral development
- Recruit and manage interns to support program work
- Participate in Travel Salem activities
Miscellaneous
- Other duties assigned by supervisor.
- Responsible for clerical needs.
- Requires some evenings, weekends and travel.
- Vehicle required and valid unencumbered Oregon Driver’s License.
- Able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
