15 places to sip wine over the holiday weekend

With world-class wines, stunning vineyard views and cozy tasting rooms, it’s no wonder the Willamette Valley was named the 2016 Wine Region of the Year by Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Help celebrate this honor and kick off the summer wine tasting season by taking part in Memorial Weekend in Wine Country (May 27–29) – one of the Willamette Valley’s longest standing traditions.

At Left Coast Cellars, in Rickreall, explore the beautiful, sustainably-farmed estate while you sip new spring releases throughout the weekend, including a 2016 White Pinot Noir and 2015 Cali’s Cuvee Pinot Noir.

At nearby Johan Vineyards, one of the region’s only biodynamic vineyards, enjoy a full line of wines – including Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Gruner Veltliner and sparkling Rosé - and take advantage of the end-of-vintage sale.

At Eola Hills Wine Cellars, Oregon’s fifth largest winery and one of the oldest in the state, enjoy new releases including 2014 and 2015 Barrel Select, Sparkling and Single Vineyard selections. At Eola Hills’ picturesque Legacy Estate Vineyard in West Salem, take part in their “Ribs and Red” event, featuring live music, a class car showcase and gourmet ribs paired with their Patriot Red and Rosé.

Salem’s Stangeland Winery will showcase new 2015 releases and feature its locally-famous meatballs smothered in garlic Pinot sauce.

Bring your dancing shoes to the Mid-Valley’s only Cuban-inspired winery and vineyard, Cubanisimo Vineyards, where salsa dancing, live music, gourmet bites and raffles will be offered.
One of the Salem area’s newest wineries, Coria Estates, will feature the Leanne McClellan Band on Saturday, May 27, along with their estate-grown Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Rosé.

At Hanson Vineyards in Woodburn, enjoy new releases of a 2016 Rosé and 2015 Pinot Gris – perfect for summertime sipping. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy the patio and gardens at this family-owned, boutique winery.

Arcane Cellars will offer small bites paired with a full line of wines, plus local beers and spirits. Guests can also enjoy a picnic overlooking the Willamette River or in the winery’s arboretum. 

​Airlie Winery, in Monmouth, is celebrating its 30th anniversary with 14 wines and live music throughout the weekend. Well-behaved dogs are always welcome at Airlie.

At Lady Hill Winery, in St. Paul, Memorial Weekend is the perfect time to experience the new Columban Hall tasting room with lovely views of the Champoeg Valley.  

Open only two weekends of the year, Belle Pente Vineyard and Winery, located in Carlton, will welcome visitors May 27-28. New releases and old favorites will be available for tasting and purchase.

In downtown Newberg, Anam Cara Cellars will host music, an art exhibit, wines and hors d’oeuvres all weekend long. Taste new spring releases, including Rose and Riesling, on the outdoor wine patio.

Enjoy a weekend full of wine, food and stunning vineyard views at Sokol Blosser Winery in Dayton. Shop local vendors as you sip a specially curated flight.

Join Dobbes Family Estate, in Dundee, for a lineup of Grenache Blanc, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Port-style wines from the Rogue Valley AVA. Food vendors from Southern Oregon will also be providing tasty treats.
