November is here! Prepare for the holidays with seasonal events, taste wine during Thanksgiving weekend or catch a show at a historic theater near Salem, Oregon!
1. Apples to Apples Paint and Cooking Class
Young at Art, in Salem, is hosting a special painting and cooking class Nov. 3. This family-friendly event will teach you step-by-step how to paint an apple tree and make a candied apple.
2. Assistance League of Salem-Keizer Holiday Open House
Get into the holiday spirit at the Assistance League of Salem-Keizer's annual Holiday Open House on Nov. 9-11. The historic Daue House, in Salem, will have hundreds of gift choices, themed trees and a holiday bake sale.
3. Beards + Brews
Celebrate the end of “No Shave November” with a facial hair face-off at Sparky’s Brewing Company, in Salem, on Nov. 30. There will be prizes for the best mustache and beard and giveaways throughout the evening for those who come to help judge.
4. Beethoven’s “Emperor”
The Oregon Symphony Association in Salem is performing Beethoven’s “Emperor.” The show is Nov. 16 at Willamette University’s Smith Auditorium. Tickets are required.

The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree is stopping in Salem on Nov. 13! The tree, which was selected from the Willamette National Forest, will be on display at the Oregon State Capitol for one afternoon before it continues its tour to Washington, D.C.

Partnerships in Community Living is hosting a casino night at Salem’s Historic Grand Theatre on Nov. 10. The theme of the evening is Prohibition/Great Gatsby Era, and people are encouraged to come dressed in their best “big shot” attire. 11. CiderFest 2018
Hewitt’s Greenwood Gardens, in Independence, Oregon, is hosting its third annual CiderFest on Nov. 3. There will be cider pressing, a BBQ-style buffet and music. Space is limited and tickets are required.
12. Enrique Chagoya: “Reverse Anthropology
“Reverse Anthropology,” an exhibition by Enrique Chagoya, features a range of deceptively subversive prints that explore topics such as immigration, colonialism and the economy. The prints will be on display at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, in Salem, starting Nov. 3.
13. Festival Chorale Oregon: Brahms’ “Ein Deutsches Requiem”
Festival Chorale Oregon opens its 40th season with a performance of Brahms’ “Ein Deutsches Requiem” on Nov. 18 at Salem’s Elsinore Theatre. This beautiful, melodic work is sung in German. Tickets are required.
14. Flip for Art
Support public art in downtown Salem at Flip For Art at the Salem Convention Center on Nov. 7. Local collectors have donated fine art for bidding, along with award-winning regional wines. 15. Keizer Turkey Dash
Start Thanksgiving with a 5K run or walk through Keizer, Oregon, on Nov. 22. Registration is required.
16. Little Tots Indoor Playground
Colder weather is right around the corner! The Salem Gymnastics Center opens its doors for an indoor playground several days a week for children under the age of 11. Admission is $6 per child.
17. Old Fashion Christmas
Head to the Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center, in Salem, on Nov. 17-18 for an old-fashioned holiday show. There will be a variety of demonstrations and activities, televisions playing classic holiday movies and gifts, arts and crafts to buy. Admission is $5 plus a canned good.
18. Oregon State Capitol Tree Lighting Celebration
Kick off Holidays at the Capitol with the annual tree lighting celebration at the Oregon State Capitol, in Salem, on Nov. 27. Santa will be present as the Grand Tree comes alive with lights. The event is free to attend.
19. Polk County Craft Festival
The Polk County Craft Festival is Nov. 23-24 in Rickreall, Oregon. There will be homemade crafts from more than 150 vendors. Admission and parking are free.
20. Polk County Holiday Fair
The 56th annual Polk County 4-H Leader’s Association Holiday Fair is Nov. 2-3 at the fairgrounds in Rickreall. More than 125 exhibitors will sell holiday goodies, including wooden toys, handmade dolls, flower arrangements, wreaths, ornaments and greeting cards. Admission to the fair is free, but donations are accepted.
21. Quiltopia
Quilts from the Pacific Northwest will be on display and for sale at the Willamette Heritage Center, in Salem, Nov. 2-3. There will be several vendors, quilt turning and free demonstrations. Admission is $7.
22. Salem on Ice
Salem’s seasonal ice skating rink opens in Riverfront Park on Nov. 17! Bring the entire family for skating, refreshments and wonderful memories throughout the winter season.
23.  Santa Arrives Aboard the Carousel Express
Santa is making a trip to Salem’s Riverfront Carousel on Nov. 23. Warm up with hot cocoa, visit with Santa and enjoy face painting and carousel rides throughout the day.
24. Thanksgiving Brunch at the Oregon Garden
Enjoy a Thanksgiving brunch buffet at the Oregon Garden on Nov. 22 in Silverton, Oregon. The buffet will have classic Thanksgiving dishes and desserts. Reservations are required.

26. The Hemp and Cannabis Fair
The Hemp and Cannabis Fair returns to the Oregon State Fair and Exposition Center, in Salem, on Nov. 3-4. This celebration of legal marijuana aims to normalize cannabis and raise awareness for industrial hemp. There will be hemp and cannabis products, legal discussions and sessions on growing. This event is for ages 21+ or 18+ with a medical card.
27. Tri-County Charm Trail
The Tri-County Charm Trail launches its second year over Thanksgiving Wine Weekend, with new locations and charms. Throughout the year, visit more than 35 wineries, towns and attractions in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties and collect wine charms along the way.
28.  Veterans Concert
In honor of the 100th anniversary of the armistice of WWI, the Willamette Master Chorus will perform “The Armed Man (A Mass for Peace)” by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins. The work includes lyrics from diverse religions and cultures to present a message of hope for a more peaceful future. The concerts are Nov. 10-11 at Willamette University’s Hudson Hall in Salem. Tickets are required.
29. Wine Tasting at Bentley’s Grill
Bentley’s Grill, in downtown Salem, is hosting wine tastings on Nov. 14 and 28. The tastings will feature local wineries.
30. Wine, Warmth and Music Open House
The historic Gentle House, in Monmouth, Oregon, will host its annual holiday open house on Nov. 30 after the Western Oregon University tree lighting. Music will bring the house to life, as warm drinks, wine and appetizers are served.
