Spring is here! Enjoy the season with outdoor activities, festivals and more this month near Salem, Oregon.
1. Asian and Pacific Islander Day
The second annual Asian and Pacific Islander Day at the Oregon State Capitol, in Salem, is April 28. There will be music and dance performances from many cultures, as well as activities and informational booths.
2. Brewstock 2018
Head to Sparky’s Brewing Company, in Salem, on April 20 for a Woodstock-inspired event. There will be ciders, beers, live music and munchies.
3. Bubbles + Bivalves
Bubbles + Bivalves returns to Eola Hills Wine Cellars, in Rickreall, Oregon, on April 7. Sparkling wine and oysters will be served in the tasting room. Tickets are required.
4. Carry the Load West Coast Relay
The Carry The Load West Coat Relay will be passing through Salem on April 28. Join the relay team on a walk or cheer them on as they honor and celebrate the sacrifices made by military, law enforcement, firefighters, rescue personnel and their families.
5. Cherry City Comic Con
Comic Con is coming to the Oregon State Fairgrounds, in Salem, April 21-22! The event will feature talent from the worlds of illustration, writing, science and acting.
6. Diabuddies Dash
Join the 5k or 10k walk and run on April 28 at Keizer Rapids Park in Keizer, Oregon, to support the Chris Dudley Foundation and raise diabetes awareness. Dudley, who had Type 1 diabetes, played in the NBA for 16 years.
7. Earth Day at the Oregon Garden
The Oregon Garden celebrates Earth Day with free admission on April 21. Bring the family to enjoy a day of free education and entertainment. A $5 donation is encouraged.
8. Elizabeth Smart: A Journey of Hope & Healing
Elizabeth Smart, who was kidnapped and held in captivity for nine months, will discuss her story on April 20 at Salem’s Elsinore Theatre. Tickets are required.
9. Family Art Day: Textiles and Tie-Dyes
The Salem Art Association will host a free family art day at the Bush Barn Art Center, in Salem, on April 7. An instructor will lead children and guardians through a hands-on art activity to take home.
10. Gardenpalooza 2018
More than 40 vendors will attend Gardenpalooza at Fir Point Farms, in Aurora, Oregon, on April 7. You can shop at the country store, eat delicious food and see hundreds of plants and tools on display.
11. Holy Beauty: Northern Renaissance Prints Discovered in an Early English Bible
On display at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, in Salem, through April 29, this exhibition features a rare Bible printed in Cambridge, England, in 1629. The Bible includes 110 Dutch and Flemish prints that were interpolated into the volume after it was printed.
12. Jay & Silent Bob Get Old
Known for their comedy podcasts, Jay & Silent Bob will take the stage at Salem’s Elsinore Theatre on April 18. The hilarious duo will be telling their stories live. The show is for ages 14 and up. Tickets are required.
13. Knot Another Fiber Festival
Knot Another Fiber Festival comes to the Oregon Garden Resort, in Silverton, Oregon, April 27-29. The festival offers high-quality fiber art workshops with outstanding instructors and a quality marketplace with more than 35 Pacific Northwest vendors.
14. Martinis & Menopause Official Book Launch
Kelli Jaecks, a prolific speaker, blogger and women’s advocate, will sign copies of her new book “Martinis & Menopause” on April 4 in Salem. She’ll answer questions and read passages from her book, which aims to be “every woman’s guide to beating the hormone groan, and thriving on the other side.”
15. Montgomery Gentry
Country artist Eddie Montgomery will perform at Spirit Mountain Casino, in Grand Ronde, Oregon, on April 14 in honor of his bandmate, Troy Gentry, who died in a helicopter crash in 2017. Tickets are required.
16. Open Mic Poetry Reading at Lady Hill Winery
Celebrate National Poetry Month at Lady Hill Winery, in St. Paul, Oregon, on April 21. Taste wine and enjoy open mic poetry readings.
17. Oregon Ag Fest
The Oregon Ag Fest is April 28-39 at the Oregon State Fairgrounds. The activity-filled festival provides attendees with an opportunity to touch, taste and experience life on the farm.
18. Qingming Festival
On April 5, there will be a blessing of the Chinese shrine at Salem’s Pioneer Cemetery in honor of the Qingming Festival. This day is set aside to clean and sweep the graves of Chinese ancestors and pay them homage.
19. Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony
The Oregon Symphony Association in Salem will perform Saint-Saens’ Organ Symphony on April 20 at Willamette University. The symphony combines a full orchestra, the emotional quality of a tone poem and the majestic sound of the organ.
20. Salem Saturday Market
Find arts and crafts, local produce and flowers at the Salem Saturday Market! Starting in April, the market will be held every Saturday through October in downtown Salem.
21. Spring Tea Party with Peter Rabbit
There will be storytelling by Peter Rabbit and Mrs. McGregor, carousel rides and a variety of tea party foods at Salem’s Riverfront Carousel on April 8. Reservations are required.
22. “The Elephant Man”
Pentacle Theatre, in Salem, will host “The Elephant Man” on various dates in April. The play recounts John Merrick’s journey from side-show freak to a celebrated member of London’s high society.
23. The Great Junk Hunt
Discover vintage, repurposed and handmade goods at The Great Junk Hunt! The event will be held April 6-7 at the Oregon State Fairgrounds.
24. The Hemp & Cannabis Fair
Head to the Oregon State Fairgrounds for a celebration of legal marijuana April 14-15. You'll find hemp and cannabis products, accessories and tools, grow and harvest equipment and more. There will also be legal discussions and educational sessions on growing and medicinal benefits. The event is for ages 21 and over.
25. Wine, Whiskey and Women
Taste wine or whiskey and celebrate yourself along with the women next to you on April 7 at the Willamette Heritage Center in Salem. Enjoy a night of live music, shopping and celebrating with friends and new connections, while being encouraged and empowered.
26. Wings of Fire: A World Premiere Musical
Based on the true events of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in 1911, this world premiere musical honors the resilience and perseverance of the human spirit, even in the face of tragedy. See the show on select dates in April at Willamette University in Salem.
27. Woodburn’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt
Woodburn, Oregon’s, annual Easter egg hunt will take place April 12 at Legion Park. Children will gather 10 empty eggs and will be able to turn them in for candy and prizes. The event is free.
28. Wooden Shoe Tulip Fest
Stroll through 40 acres of beautiful tulips while enjoying expansive views of vineyards and mountains. The Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm will be open daily to visitors throughout April. Each year the flowers are arranged in a new pattern. There will also be food, wine tastings and children’s activities.
29. Yoga + Beer at Victory Club
Yoga + Beer will host a by-donation class ($5 is suggested) at Victory Club, in downtown Salem, on April 11. Food and drink will be available for purchase after the class.
30. ‘80s Prom Dance Party
Put on your parachute pants, fanny packs and leg warmers and get ready to flash dance at Vagabond Brewing, in Salem, on April 21! There will be music, games and, of course, beer.
