30 minutes EAST of Salem, OregonFrom Salem, take Highway 22 East into the Cascade Mountains. Along the way are the farming towns of Sublimity, Stayton and Aumsville. In Stayton, stop by the Santiam Historic Museum and the historic Stayton/Jordan Covered Bridge in Pioneer Park. The communities along Highway 22 East (Santiam Canyon) have great events such as the Sublimity Harvest Festival and the Santiam Canyon Stampede. Stayton/Sublimity Chamber of Commerce East of Salem on Highway 213 you can’t miss Cooley’s Iris Gardens. This colorful iris garden is in bloom mid-May through the first week of June (depending on the weather). Continuing on Highway 213 is historic Silverton with unique shops and eateries that add to the charm of the area. Silverton is also the home of The Oregon Garden, a spectacular 240-acre botanical garden in the Cascade foothills (the 80-acre first phase is complete). A scenic drive from Silverton through hop and flower fields and Christmas tree farms will take you to Silver Falls State Park.
