Wineries, shopping and fun in the Mid-Willamette Valley
Head to the Mid-Willamette Valley this month for seasonal fun, winery open houses and holiday shopping! Here’s what is happening near Salem, Oregon, in November:
1. A Christmas Carol
Directed by Jeff Sanders, Pentacle Theatre, in Salem, will perform “A Christmas Carol” from Nov. 10 to Dec. 2. This adaption of the ageless story captures Dickens' ironic point of view while it creates a panoramic picture of Victorian London.
2. An Evening with Kenny G
Kenny G, a world-renowned saxophonist, will be performing holiday hits and contemporary classics on Nov. 28 at Salem’s Elsinore Theatre.
3. Beatles vs. Stones: A Musical Showdown
Abbey Road and Satisfaction, tribute bands to the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, will engage in a musical showdown of hits on Nov. 4 at the Elsinore Theatre.
4. Christmas in the Garden
The Oregon Garden, in Silverton, Oregon, will host Christmas in the Garden from Nov. 24-Dec. 31. The charming, European-inspired event will feature ice skating, snowless tubing, an artisan vendor market, photos with Santa, fire pits, live music and more!
5. Deepwood Museum & Gardens: Holiday Gift Sale
Deepwood Museum & Gardens, in Salem, will host its annual holiday gift sale Nov. 10-11. Shop for the perfect gift within the gorgeous Queen Anne Victorian-style home. Vendors will offer a variety of holiday options, including chocolates, teas, holiday decorations, jewelry and more. Admission is free.
6. Ed Asner: A Man and His Prostate
Based on a true-life experience, a near tragedy is masterfully transformed into a one-man comedy. Ed Asner stars in this hilarious and informative play on Nov. 11 at the Elsinore Theatre.
7. Elsinore Film Series
This month, “The Birds” and “Giant” are being shown during Elsinore Theatre’s Wednesday Night Film Series on Nov. 1 and Nov. 15. Admission is $6.
8. Elsinore Theatre Tour
Named after the 16th century Danish castle in Shakespeare’s “Hamlet,” the Elsinore Theatre opened in 1926. Take a tour of the theatre, see the Mighty Wurlitzer organ and hear stories behind the ghost light on Nov. 1.
9. Enlightened Theatrics: “A Charles Dickens Christmas”
This presentation by Enlightened Theatrics tells the story of the Christmas before the carol. “A Charles Dickens Christmas” gives a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the holiday classic. Preview nights will be held Nov. 29-30 at Salem’s Historic Grand Theatre.
10. Enlightened Theatrics: Next Fall
“Next Fall” takes a witty and provocative look at faith, commitment and unconditional love. While the play’s central story focuses on the five-year relationship between Adam and Luke, the play goes beyond a typical love story. See the show through Nov. 12 at Salem’s Historic Grand Theatre.
11. Flip for Art
Head to the Salem Convention Center on Nov. 1 for “Flip For Art.” There will be a silent auction, award-winning wines and attendees can make a souvenir photo flip book. Proceeds support the Oregon Artists Series Foundation, which works to acquire permanent art displays in downtown Salem.
12. The Hemp & Cannabis Fair
A celebration of legal marijuana will take place at the Oregon State Fair & Exposition Center Nov. 4-5. You'll find hemp and cannabis products, accessories, tools, grow and harvest equipment and more in the amazing expo hall. Attendees must be 21 years or older or 18+ with a medical card.
13. Holiday Gala: La Dolce Vita
Stroll around the Bush Barn Art Center, located in Salem, in your festive evening attire while browsing hundreds of handmade gifts from regional artisans, listening to live music and enjoying delicious appetizers and drinks. The holiday gala will be held on Nov. 10.
14. Holidays at the Capitol: Tree Lighting
Celebrate the 36th year of Holidays at the Capitol at the tree lighting celebration on Nov. 28. The event will feature the West Salem High School Choir, dignitaries, Santa and Mrs. Claus. Admission is free.
15. Kids Night Out
Children are invited to the Kroc Center’s Kids Night Out on Nov. 17 in Salem. There will be arts and crafts, swimming, snacks and other activities.
16. Lecture: Native American Artist Wendy Red Star
Wendy Red Star, a nationally recognized artist, will lead a lecture at Willamette University on Nov. 15. She will talk about how she explores multiple disciplines to understand the intersections of Native American ideologies and colonialist structures, both historically and in contemporary society.
17. Left Coast Cellars’ Noir Friday
Left Coast Cellars’ annual Noir Friday is Nov. 24 in Rickreall, Oregon. The event will feature the best deals of the year on select wines. The entry fee entitles you to a flight of select current releases, barrel tastings and a GoVino glass. Wood-fired pizza will also be available for purchase.
18. Military Exhibit Grand Re-Opening
A long-standing and admired fixture of the Independence Heritage Museum, the military exhibit features artifacts representing military operations through the years. The exhibit’s grand reopening will be held on Nov. 10. Admission is free.
19. Polk County Craft Festival
Visit the Polk County Fairgrounds Nov. 24-25 for the Polk County Craft Festival. There will be two buildings full of handmade crafts. Admission is free.
20. Polk Flea Market
Find a treasure at the Polk Flea Market on Nov. 5! Held at the Polk County Fairgrounds, the market is Polk County’s oldest and largest flea market. There will be antiques, jewelry, furniture, tools and more.
21. Salem Art Walk
The Salem Art Walk is a progressive art event with pop-up galleries and open studios at numerous venues in downtown Salem. Local artists will provide a diverse selection of work. The walk will be held on Nov. 24.
22. Salem on Ice
Salem on Ice will open for its inaugural season at Salem’s Riverfront Park on Nov. 18! The seasonal ice skating rink will be open through Jan. 21.
23. Santa arrives to Salem Carousel
Santa will arrive in Salem straight from the North Pole on Nov. 24! He’ll make a stop at Salem's Riverfront Carousel to take photos and visit. While you wait in anticipation for his arrival, carousel elves will serve complimentary hot cocoa.
24. Sawasdee Thailand Exhibit
Explore the culture of Thailand through the stories of its people at the World Beat Gallery in downtown Salem. There will be more than 50 artifacts from Thailand for sale. The gallery runs through Jan. 17, 2018.
25. Thanksgiving Wine Weekend
Wineries throughout the Mid-Willamette Valley will open their doors Nov. 24-26. Guests will enjoy special tastings, entertainment and light bites. 26. Tribute to Veterans
The Oregon State Capitol will hold a Tribute to Veterans on Nov. 9. There will be a uniform display, flag display, choral performance, presentation of colors and refreshments. The event is free and open to the public.
27. Tuesday Gallery Talks at Hallie Ford Museum of Art
Join museum docents for a complimentary guided tour at the Hallie Ford Museum of Art, located in Salem, on Nov. 7, Nov. 14 and Nov. 28. The docents will take attendees through the “Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts at 25” exhibition.
28. Willamette Master Chorus Veterans Concert
The Willamette Maser Chorus will host a patriotic concert on Nov. 11 and 12 at Willamette University in Salem. They will also present the inaugural performance of the Willamette Master Chorus Honor Choir, which includes top choir students from Salem-Keizer area high schools.
29. Woodburn Outlets Tree Lighting Ceremony
Santa arrives at Woodburn Premium Outlets on Nov. 17! Join the community in welcoming Santa with caroling, reindeer, a parade and the tree lighting ceremony.
30. Yoga at Brooks Winery
Brooks Winery, in Amity, Oregon, will hold a free yoga class on Nov. 5. RSVP by calling the tasting room.
