Travel Salem Honors Local Businesses

En route to Travel Salem’s first annual “Absolutely Fabulous” Awards Luncheon, on May 20 at Willamette Valley Vineyards, attendees experienced Oregon’s version of the “red carpet” – a lush and rolling hillside up to the winery; stopping every so often to enjoy the amazing panoramic views of our very own “green carpet,” also known as the Willamette Valley.

May is National Tourism Month, and as we gathered for the “Ab Fab” awards, it was the perfect time to recognize tourism industry partners who have gone above and beyond this past year to attract visitors to our region and drive $500 million in economic impact to our communities.

The Ab Fab Awards paid tribute to many exceptional tourism partners, here’s a few: “Absolutely Green” Award to the Salem Conference Center for their numerous green initiatives to reduce their carbon footprint; “Absolutely Thinking Big” Award to the Willamette Heritage Center for their ability to think big and create an umbrella organization that will benefit a number of heritage resources; and the “Absolutely Fabulous” Award went to… the Statesman Journal for their commitment to spreading the word about the wondrous bounty of the region, and sharing stories about how tourism touches every corner of the economy and improves the quality of life for all of us that live here. Visit TravelSalem.com for the complete list of winners.

During the Ab Fab awards ceremony, I looked out and saw the folks who day in and day out, follow their dreams and pour their hearts into their work, making the Salem area one of the best places on the planet to call home. Not only does Travel Salem applaud the achievements of our award recipients, we also applaud all of our partners in the tourism industry. You are all Absolutely Fabulous!
