Travel Salem, in partnership with Travel Oregon, is hosting a regional Tourism Summit on Thursday, January 14, 2010 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel and Conference Center (3301 Market St. NE, Salem). Join in the discussion!

This Summit is a forum to discuss how tourism connects to businesses and powers local economies. A diverse panel has been selected in an effort to put together a broad cross-section of expertise on a variety of issues (e.g. land use, industry, recruitment, retail, development, lodging, policy, education, etc.). Confirmed panelists include: Shelly Hansen, Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde; Steve Johnson, VIPs Industries; Austin McGuigan, Polk County Community Development; Stacy Palmer, Silverton Chamber of Commerce; Ray Burstedt, Strategic Economic Development Corporation; Steve McCoid, Oregon Restaurant Association; Teri Sunderland, Woodburn Company Stores; Craig Smith, Chemeketa Community College; and Hazel Patten, Community Volunteer.

The summit will be moderated by Travel Oregon’s Chief Executive Officer Todd Davidson. This free “town hall” forum will foster a brainstorming roundtable designed to bring out the perceptions and reality of tourism as it relates to the business environment.

This discussion will be a catalyst to a statewide discussion so please plan on attending! Free and open to the public.
