The Economic Impact of Tourism Jumps 12.8 Percent

Tourism is big business in Salem and a vital economic generator, confirmed by a recently released study, Economic Impacts of Travel 1992-2006, Salem Oregon. According to Portland based market research firm Dean Runyan Associates, Salem's visitor spending was $221.7 in 2006 an increase of 12.8 percent. 2008 Salem Area Visitors Guide

The Salem Convention & Visitors Association (SCVA) would like to thank all members and advertisers for your overwhelming support of the 2008 Salem Area Visitors Guide. The 2008 guide will be distributed the first week of March to 800 locations throughout Oregon, Washington, California, British Columbia and sent as requested domestically and internationally.

SCVA Hires Community Development Director

Sue Nichols will officially begin working as SCVA's new Community Development Director on February 25. Sue was previously Executive Director for the Stayton/Sublimity Chamber of Commerce for 14 years. While with the Chamber, Sue increased membership by 100 percent. She successfully coordinated Chamber events, promotions and publicity, which required the recruitment of sponsors and funding partners. As the leader of a small Chamber, Sue was a "jack of all trades" with experience in organization administration, financial oversight, membership recruitment and retention, program reporting, and the recruitment and training of staff and volunteers.

Sue brings enthusiasm, creativity and regional relationships that will help ensure program success. Please join SCVA in welcoming Sue to Salem's promotional team!

The Northwest Outdoor Writer's Association (NOWA) will be holding their annual conference in Salem April 24-27, 2008. The conference generally attracts 80 to 100 attendees including outdoor communicators, representatives from outdoor industries and related associations and agencies.
