Salem area events are extremely important in attracting visitors to the area but they also add to the quality of life here in Salem and the Marion and Polk counties region. Please remember to visit www.TravelSalem.com to learn about the various events taking place in your community. Let’s help support these events and encourage visitors to take an extra day, or two, in Salem to enjoy these unique activities.

Here is a sample of a few upcoming events that help make Salem such a great place to live, work and play!

Salem Film Festival
The 2008 SALEM FILM FESTIVAL will take its cue from last year’s remarkable line-up of films and filmmakers to dazzle yet again with a three-day supply of the fresh, the fantastic and the first-rate. With invigorated verve, we are enthusiastically scheming and plotting another whirlwind weekend of energy and emotion, of vitality and passion, of diversity and diversion, all to be splashed across the screen before your very eyes. When the lights have dimmed, prepare to be spirited away by the magic of the movies... www.SalemFilmFestival.com

YMCA Healthy Kids Day!
Sponsored by Salem Hospital
YMCA Healthy Kids Day is a free, fun health fair for kids! Kids and grown-ups alike will enjoy displays, demonstrations and presentations from local vendors, agencies and services all with a focus on kids' health and safety. Activities include a bouncy castle, Wii games, gymnastics, martial arts, dance, and a chance to meet local Olympic athlete Dave Johnson. Dave will talk about the importance of being a healthy kid and will sign autographs. The Salem Family YMCA is dedicated to building healthy kids and families, and will be giving out a free Healthy Family Home starter kit full of tips and recipes that make it easy for families to incorporate healthy activities and food choices into their daily routine. The event is free and runs from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 19 at the Salem Family YMCA, 685 Court St. NE, downtown Salem. (503) 581-9622.
